Overview

Hull Truck is dedicated to delivering exceptional theatre for a diverse audience, including those encountering theatre for the first time.

As part of its Hull UK City Of Culture 2017 programme, Hull Truck is working with a range of internationally renowned artists and companies, commissioning writers to produce world premiers in Hull and working with local people to tell their own stories.

Culture is a powerful regenerative tool for the city, helping it to overcome social and economic challenges. Hull Truck has a unique Northern Voice, locally rooted, global in outlook, inspiring artists, audiences and communities to reach their greatest potential.

Grow - Artist Development Project

Grow is Hull Truck Theatre’s Artist Development Programme. It is designed to support artists of all ages and at any stage in their career. It has achieved particular success in supporting artists in the early stages of their careers.

The Grow programme works closely with 3 Hull companies who are performing in Edinburgh this year – Middle Child, Silent Uproar and Bellow Theatre are all part of the theatre’s Supported Artist scheme.

Grow is a year round programme and is made up of:
• Professional Development Workshops
• Be Our Guest; quarterly paid residencies for the development of new work
• An Annual Grow Festival
• First Time Out; platforms for presenting work in development for audience feedback
• Showcases; work programmed in Hull Truck Theatre’s studio
• Supported Artists Scheme; offering intensive long term bespoke support to companies and individuals
• International Artist Exchange Programme; providing bespoke support to international artists through collaborative practice

Some of the above elements are transferable to other organisations and settings and Hull Truck Theatre are particularly keen to deliver the Artist Exchange Programme to a wider constituency. The exchange programme matches international artists with UK artists who work together, in both countries, to share skills and collaborative practice via a creative process. This process is facilitated by professionals who are part of Hull Truck Theatre's Grow team with extensive experience of artist development.
