4x4: Ephemeral Architectures

Gandini Juggling

Formed in 1992, Gandini Juggling continues to be an individual voice in the global circus scene, reinventing and reinvigorating juggling for the 21st century. Inspired by and actively embracing collaboration with experts from other disciplines - in science as well as the arts - they seek to explore new creative possibilities and stimulate imaginations. Ferociously prolific, this ever-evolving ensemble of virtuosic performers is constantly producing new work, ranging from radical visual art experiments to highly-accessible family-friendly entertainment.
In 4x4: Ephemeral Architectures, four jugglers and four ballet dancers share the stage. Following the huge international success of Smashed, the company’s new work opens a unique dialogue between two art forms that are perceived very differently, but rely on similar skills - trust, memory, body positioning and precise timing - and are both underpinned by mathematical precision. Each of these formalised systems charts a momentary journey through time and space leaving an unseen trace, like an imaginary architecture, and 4x4 is a vibrant and engaging celebration of the places these paths meet. Choreographed by Royal Ballet dancer Ludovic Ondiviela, the production features an original musical score Suspended opus 69 by acclaimed composer Nimrod Borenstein, performed live by chamber ensemble Camerata Alma Viva.
