Gods Are Fallen And All Safety Gone

Greyscale Theatre Company

Overview

Newcastle-based Greyscale is an ensemble of established directors, writers, actors and designers interested in exploring the fringes and gaps between the ways they work. Employing a unique development process that shares responsibility for style, form, character and narrative across the creative team, they aim to make carefully structured, powerfully live, political and anarchic theatre for a modern audience that is bored of being bored.

Gods Are Fallen And All Safety Gone investigates what happens when we discover that our parents are flawed human beings; and that at some point, sooner than we think, they are suddenly going to disappear from our lives. With the show revolving - quite literally – around some beautifully observed, repeated dialogue about a mother and daughter’s banal everyday concerns, two male actors play out these roles while a real-life mother and daughter, drawn from the local community, sit in on the performance as guests and ever-present witnesses. Stripped down to basics, this deceptively simple production illustrates the tensions of family life with elegance, intimacy and an emotional truth.

“It’s a very pure form of theatre – intimate, pared down and emotionally true” ★★★★ Natasha Tripney, The Stage
