Igor and Moreno presented by The Place
Igor Urzelai and Moreno Solinas are London-based dance artists whose work is characterised by their interest in the moving body and the immediacy of action as a vehicle for meaning, ideas and desires; and by a generosity of spirit. Looking both to reclaim the theatre as a genuinely meaningful place for assembly and to explore the cathartic properties of live performance, their ambition is to create a frame in which to share their views without dictating a single reading, instead creating space for reflection for the viewer.
Idiot-Syncrasy – the result of Igor and Moreno’s first collaboration as a duo in 2013 - is about commitment, perseverance and dance’s potential as an agent for change. Initially setting out to change an increasingly austere world through their performance, the futility and naivety of that ambition made them feel like idiots. Calling on the songs and dances from their respective Basque and Sardinian folk traditions, they began again - by singing, then jumping, then jumping a lot more. Capturing the essence of that shared act of endurance, the show’s minimalist, repetitive choreography retains an ancient dance’s sense of empowerment and joy while commenting subtly on the dysfunction of 21st Century humanity.
