Folk and Profundis

National Dance Company Wales

Overview

National Dance Company Wales is an award-winning company presenting work by some of the most celebrated international choreographers alongside creations by the hottest new talent from Wales. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Caroline Finn, NDCWales takes audiences and participants on journeys of discovery; creating opportunities to participate, discuss, watch and learn about dance, about themselves and about the world.

Featuring Finn’s quirky and engaging choreographic style and a striking stage design, the darkly comic Folk takes inspiration from the characters and communities depicted in 17th and 18th Century oil paintings to explore social dynamics through scenes played out in in a sometimes familiar, sometimes surreal pastoral landscape.

Accompanied by whimsical spoken word and a diverse soundtrack ranging from classical Arabic music to contemporary experimental electronica, choreographer Roy Assaf’s Profundis is a playful, vibrant and provocative work that challenges us to ask questions about what things are and what they are not.
