Rhum and Clay Theatre Company and Kit Redstone

Formed in 2010 whilst studying at Ecole Jacques Lecoq, Rhum and Clay is led by Artistic Directors Julian Spooner and Matthew Wells. Devised through creative play, the company’s work - a sophisticated and highly accessible fusion of physical theatre and absurdist clowning - is made in collaboration with a diverse ensemble of actors, dancers, musicians, designers, academics and anyone with an interesting story to tell. Rhum and Clay is currently an Associate Company at The Watermill Theatre in Newbury and London’s New Diorama Theatre.

TESTOSTERONE is a collaboration with writer and director Kit Redstone and stemmed from a desire to explore his experiences of masculinity as a trans man. What exactly is it to be a man and how do we learn to become one? What's it like to go through adolescence at 33? One year after his first injection, Kit enters a male gym changing room for the first time. What follows is a hallucinatory roller coaster ride through fantasies, memories and desires; and an irreverent and comic story about the sometimes painful distance between who we are and what we desire to become.

In the press

“Lucid, funny, and moving, Rhum and Clay’s Testosterone ends up reflecting back at us our own world, a world where masculinity is both a loaded concept and a lived experience.” Exeunt

“The play showcases voices rarely heard on stage.” West End Wilma
