Am I Dead Yet?

Unlimited Theatre

Overview

Formed in Leeds (UK) in 1997, Unlimited is what happens when the artists Clare Duffy, Jon Spooner and Chris Thorpe make new work together in collaboration with an expanding pool of associate artists, scientists, technologists and educators. Having earned a reputation for award-winning theatre that interrogates cutting-edge research in fields such as physics and space travel, neuroscience, biotechnology and human enhancement, the company’s work, which primarily revolves around live performance designed for theatres, is increasingly presented in other places such as museums, festivals, broadcast and the internet.

Am I Dead Yet? sees two friends, talking (and singing) about what happens when we die, how we think about dying, and most importantly, how sometimes that process might be reversed. Performed by Unlimited's co-founders Jon Spooner and Chris Thorpe, Am I Dead Yet? is filled with stories and songs about our demise and how we don’t talk about it enough. Inspired by research into contemporary developments in resuscitation science and made in collaboration with Emergency Care professionals, each performance features a live CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) demonstration, and is followed by a Death Cafe - an informal safe space for audiences to talk about death.

Wraparound

Unlimited have a long history of delivering wraparound and participatory activities alongside their touring productions – from writing and devising workshops with students and emerging artists, to sessions exploring science and art collaborations and courses exploring the basics of setting up and running an independent theatre company. The company can tailor a range of participatory activities to accompany any international visit. For Am I Dead Yet? in particular, we can run Death Cafe events alongside the show – informal discussion spaces where audience members can have safe discussions about death, bereavement and the themes of the show.
